In classical times, especially in the 6th century BC, this type of container was very common in the Mediterranean region. The ancient city ruins in the province of Ragusa on the island of Sicily, Italy, where small indigenous double eared vases were unearthed, bear witness to the commercial and cultural exchanges of that era. It is a product of the classical era, and its design usually includes two portable handles, a narrow neck, and a wide body, making it very suitable for long-distance liquid transportation. Now it is collected in the Igleio Archaeological Museum in Ragusa.
