Cicadas are insects of the cicada family, commonly known as cicadas. There are currently about 2000 species of cicadas, with a body length of 2-5 centimeters. Cicadas with two pairs of membranous wings, protruding compound eyes, and vocalizations are all male cicadas. The vocal organ at the base of the male cicada's abdomen is like a large drum covered with a layer of eardrum, which vibrates and produces sound. Due to the cicada's vocal muscles being able to stretch and retract about 10000 times per second, coupled with the empty space between the lid and the eardrum, it can resonate and produce a particularly loud sound. However, female cicadas are called "mute cicadas" because their body structure is incomplete and they do not have a tympanic membrane, making them unable to speak.
