It is an ancient temple located in southwestern Lebanon, near the Awali River and about 2 kilometers northeast of the city of Sida. It enshrines the Phoenician healing god Esmon. The temple lasted from the 7th century BC to the 8th century AD, indicating a close connection with the city of Saida. Due to its expansion spanning centuries and experiencing both independence and foreign rule, the temple incorporates a diverse range of architectural styles and decorative elements. Esmon is one of the most important gods in the Phoenician pantheon and the main male deity of Sida. At first, he was the god of nature and the god of spring plants, and later his status rose in the Phoenician Pantheon.
