It is a large primate in the family Homo, with a similarity of up to 98% to the human genome. It is divided into two subspecies: West African gorillas and East African gorillas, each with two subspecies. Large in size, males can weigh up to 350 kilograms and their entire body is covered in black fur. Adult males have silver gray fur on their backs. They mainly live in the tropical rainforests of Africa and lead a polygamous family style social life. It is a diurnal animal that mainly feeds on plants, and occasionally eats bird eggs and grubs. Due to habitat loss and poaching, gorillas are currently listed as endangered species.
