It is a species of fish in the family of swordfish and genus of swordfish, commonly known as umbrella swordfish or oriental swordfish. Oceanic mid upper migratory fish are generally found in waters above the thermocline and often appear in groups around islands. Swimming speed is fast. It has the habit of breeding and migrating. Mainly feeds on fish, crustaceans, and cephalopods. Widely distributed in tropical and subtropical waters of the Indian Ocean, Atlantic Ocean, and Pacific Ocean, and can even enter the Mediterranean Sea from the Red Sea. Distributed in the South China Sea, East China Sea, and along the coast of Taiwan, with the highest production in the eastern and southern parts of Taiwan. Flat finned swordfish is an important economic fish species.
