It is a salt lake located in eastern Jordan, Israel, and western West Bank, situated in the Jordan Rift Valley. The main tributary is the Jordan River. The water surface and shore are located 1410.8 feet below sea level, which is the lowest point on land on Earth. Known for its high salinity, its salt content is approximately 9 times that of other oceans, making it almost devoid of any living organisms, hence the name 'Dead Sea'.
