Distributed in tropical and subtropical waters around the world, it feeds on seagrass, jellyfish, mollusks, and crustaceans. Long lifespan, some individuals can live to over 100 years old. Females will build nests and lay eggs on the beach, then bury the eggs in the sand and rely on the heat of the sun to naturally hatch. Many species are listed as endangered.
