The M3 submachine gun was a low-cost. 45 caliber submachine gun mass-produced by General Motors during World War II. The appearance of the M3 submachine gun is very similar to a lubricating oil gun used to add butter to cars, so it is also known as a "butter gun". The M3 submachine gun did not appear on a large scale on the battlefield until 1944 and entered China with the assistance of the United States to the Nationalist army.
