The red eared painted turtle (scientific name: Trachemys scripta elegans) is a subspecies of the painted turtle in the family Turtles. Adult elongated, with a gently raised carapace, distinct ridges, and a serrated posterior edge. The head is wide and blunt, with yellow and green stripes on the neck, and one long red patch on each side behind the eyes. There are yellow green lines on the sides of the head, neck, and abdomen. Eyes of equal size, neck short and thick. The whole body has a variety of colors, colorful and vibrant. The back armor is emerald green, and each shield has yellow green inlaid circular patterns.
