Also known as firefly squid or firefly squid, it is a unique marine organism known for its luminescent properties. This small squid is mainly distributed in the waters of Toyama Bay and southern Hokkaido in Japan, and usually appears in spring. Small in size, with a body length of approximately 3 to 8 centimeters, possessing a transparent body and luminescent organs. The phenomenon of luminescence is caused by luminescent bacteria contained within its body. The firefly squid produces light through chemical reactions, and uses this light for communication, predation, and evasion of natural enemies. At night, the light emitted can illuminate the surrounding waters, creating a dazzling scene that attracts people's attention.
