It is a spherical robot affiliated with the "Resistance Group" (Resistance). Its owner is Resistance Group (Resistance) pilot Bo Dammeron. The BB-8's body is a sphere and its head is hemispherical, with something like an "eye" (its sensor) on it. The BB-8 is actually an aerospace mechanic robot that can plug into a fighter plane like R2,R4 and other robots.
