The mouth is very wide and can filter a large amount of seawater to capture food. Despite their large size, whale sharks have a gentle personality and are not aggressive towards humans. Usually active alone or in small groups, sometimes observed swimming with other marine organisms such as stingrays. Whale sharks are a protected species and their numbers are decreasing globally.
