The body is covered with 5 rows of bone plates, and the back color ranges from black to brownish gray, while the abdomen is white to gray. Young sturgeons usually inhabit freshwater bodies and gradually migrate towards the ocean as they grow. Food includes aquatic animals and plants, while adult sturgeons are omnivorous and feed on benthic organisms and small fish. The spawning behavior of Atlantic sturgeons is mainly influenced by water temperature, and they choose to lay eggs in flowing water bodies with hard objects such as rocks and pebbles.
