Built around 1869, it was the official residence of Jules C é sar Claude Thibaudier, the deputy director of the Yokosuka Naval Arsenal. As one of the oldest Western style buildings on Honshu Island, it witnessed an important historical moment in Japan's modernization process. Before its demolition in 2003, it was an important landmark in Yokosuka City.
