The grimaced moth, also known as the human surface moth, belongs to the genus Lepidoptera surface moth. It is known for the skull-shaped markings on the back of its chest. Adult wings span 100-125mm, body color is dark black brown, front wings have gray white spots, hindwings yellow, base, middle and outer edge of a wide black band of three. Mainly distributed in Asia. The larvae feed on Solanaceae, Leguminosae, Oleaceae, Bignoniaceae and Labiaceae. The adults are nocturnal, phototactic and stop on tree trunks during the day. When disturbed, the grimaced moth flies around the ground and makes a "squeak" call.
