The fiddler beetle is a unique species of beetle insect that lives in the tropical rainforests of Southeast Asia. The body length can reach 60-100mm, the body is flat, brown or black, with metallic luster. Shape resembles a violin, narrow head, "thin neck", wide wings, the overall appearance is unique. The larvae live in huge porous bacteria, will dig tunnels in the bacteria and pupate, the development period of up to 8-9 months. The adults are usually active between August and November, and are mostly found at dusk and at night. It is a predatory insect that feeds on the larvae of other insects and secretes a toxic butyric acid defense fluid to ward off predators.
