The pecan horned magic caterpillar is the larval stage of the emperor hawk moth. The body size is huge, up to 15cm in length, the body is blue-green, and the head is orange with black spikes. These spikes look like "horns" but are actually non-toxic. It mainly feeds on the leaves of pecan trees, walnut trees and other plants. Although it looks scary, it is actually very gentle and does not pose a threat to humans. When the larvae mature, they burrow into the soil, form a soil chamber in the ground and pupate. The pupa is dark brown or black and cylindrical in shape. After passing through the pupa stage, it will emerge into the imperial moth, which is a larger moth.
