It is a large rodent species living in South America, belonging to the porcupine family. Known for its unique defense mechanism - long, sharp spines covering its back, it stands up when threatened to protect itself from predators. Large in size, with a body length of up to 60 to 70 centimeters, the tail is one of its prominent features, slender and capable of grasping objects, suitable for arboreal life. Mainly inhabiting forests and tropical savannas, they are nocturnal animals that rest in tree holes or rock crevices during the day and come out to forage at night. Their diet is relatively omnivorous, feeding on the fruits, leaves, roots, and small insects and animals of plants.
